We decided to take a three night stop for our journey home. We had originally wanted to stay at Chambery but instead ended up at the airport hotel just outside the town. This however wasn’t such a disastrous idea as at first it may seem.
We set off fairly early and travelled along the A8 and then headed up to Sisteron where we charged up at a previously visited charging station. A very bleak spot without any character apart from the view in the distance.
We arrived at our very modern destination and were told that we would have to move our car out of the hotel car park unless we wanted to pay the charge. We left it there but never paid the charge. I enjoyed a swim, a brief moment in the sauna and then a little relaxation lying on the bed to dry off. We eat a reasonable meal in the hotel.
The next morning we headed towards Dijon with a stop over in Dole.

A very nice cathedral awaited us and we had a good look around. I didn’t take in much information about the place.
The town itself sits inside a walled area and has maintained most of its character.

Despite these two scenes above there is a certain amount of tat around the town and parking is a problem However I did enjoy the stopover. We bought a token present for Kay who has suffered some worrying health issues recently.
We moved onto Dijon for our night’s stop.
We stayed at the Hotel Mercure in central Dijon and we walked to the restaurant that I had booked a few nights before we had even left La Colle. This place had only a few tables but they produced a nice meal for us both.

The next day we left the hotel and parked really close to the heart of the city. The morning light shone down on our small table set in front of the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy and we sipped our coffee, orange juice and bread.
After we had eaten we made a tour of the Palace Museum. We only intended to drive a short distance today and so we had plenty of time to kill before we needed to arrive in Reims.

Nothing later than the nineteenth century inhabited the museum and I find it difficult to get excited about these older works of art.
The museum visit completed we drove on to Reims. She arrived in plenty of time for me to watch the Spurs v Arsenal match. I paid for the privilege and thoroughly enjoyed the 1-0 win. However I did have my doubts about our possible success in th first half when Spurs were all over the Gunners. Fortunately the set-piece coach had his tactics spot on and Gabriel scored the only goal of the match.
When the game had finished I rushed over to meet up with Maggi who sat outside Reims Cathedral, a magnificent building.

The two most stunning features are the stained glass windows and the towering columns. There of course many other beautiful points about this huge monument to christianity.
In the evening we ate in the hotel restaurant and had an enjoyable meal.

Both my courses were vegetarian and no bad thing about that.
In the morning we did a bit of shopping and then went straight to the tunnel. Unfortunately we waited around to get on the train so this was more than tedious.
