Sunday morning and an opportunity to sit around and do very little. I wonder if I’m doing too much of this and not being as productive as I should be. At the ,moment I feel there is something missing in my life, perhaps it’s a project, some studying or perhaps charity work. I can’t work out how I should use my time so that I rise in the morning with a purpose.
We arranged to meet the Jones, Riley crew outside The Griffin in Old Amersham at 12:15. Everyone arrived on time and we set off on a two hour walk that Matt had organised. Not that it had taken much organising because I have done this walk with him and Garry a few times before.
We had just returned from our Safari and I wanted to tell the tale. Matt made it abundantly obvious that he had no interest in listening to whatever I said about our trip or to look at any photos or videos. During the walk’s first stages Fiona asked me about the holiday and I started to tell her, and every time I did Matt would burst in with either stories of his Safari experiences or something completely irrelevant. I know he likes to talk a lot but this seemed way over the top.
On the later part of the walk Mark joined us and Matt told him all the tales that he had already told me when we had gone out together before our Kenya trip.
We arrived back at The Griffin for our lunch and ordered our drinks. At one point I asked the waiter if we could order the food. I received a comment from Matt about being patient and saying please. I didn’t appreciate that either.
The food at the Griffin exceeded all my expectations. Undoubtedly this Sunday lunch beat any that I can remember. The taste of the beef, the gravy and all the trimmings were all top notch. I look forward to going again in the not too distant future.
While at the meal table Mark and I finalised our arrangements to meet the next day for a walk. The plan turned out to be a meet at Northwood Hills station and to take the train to Croxley with a ramble along the canal and then through Cassiobury Park. Afterwards Maggi asked me why I didn’t invite Matt. Well, I replied, he had every opportunity to ask to join us, and he didn’t. Plus I thought his attitude during the walk etc and been less than pleasant.
After the meal we all dispersed to our various vehicles and we made our way home, rather full because most of us had added a sticky toffee pudding to our feast.
